Soft tissue therapies
Soft tissue therapy involves releasing the body’s soft tissues, including muscles, fasciae, tendons and ligaments with or without instruments.
The goals of soft tissue therapies are to:
- Break down adhesions, also known as scar tissue;
- Relax muscle tension;
- Displace tissue fluids.
Muscle release technique
During a muscle release treatment, the patient will be moved through a series of precise movement protocols as the practitioner manually works on the tissues involved.
Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization
This variant utilizes a tool to break down adhesions following the same goals as the muscle release technique.
Soft tissue therapies can be used for a variety of neuromusculoskeletal disorders, including:
- Headaches;
- Back pain;
- Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS);
- Shin splints;
- Shoulder pain;
- Sciatica;
- Plantar fasciitis;
- Knee problems;
- Elbow problems.
